torque wrench motorcycle

How do I know when I have reached the specified torque when changing motorcycle oil?
I'm a fairly new rider and want to do my routine repairs myself. I've been told time and time again not to overtighten the oil drain bolt or else i'll strip it. The manual says to tighten the bolt to 17Nm and the filter to 43 Nm. How can I tell when I've reached the specified torque just using a socket wrench? Should I just do it by feel and barely tighten it when it starts to tighten up? I've been told that the drain bolt tightens as you ride.
Also, for brake bleeding, should I open the valve BEFORE I pull the lever, pump it, close the valve, and release the lever; or pump the lever, open and close the valve, then release the lever. I watched a video that says you should do both in that order, but I want to know what works most efficiently. Thanks.
Honest, get a torque wrench. If you strip the threads you'll feel like hurling yourself off a bridge. Go to an auto supply store and ask for a torque wrench that will handle those numbers.
Your second brake bleeding method is correct ("pump the lever, open and close the valve, then release the lever"). The first method is wrong.
